Prayer for protection

There are many prayers that we recite to avoid harm. Below, we have given some prayers that you can recite to find protection and peace.

When seeking refuge from evil

أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم

Translation: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan.

Protection from the evil eye

People are told to recite this dua daily to ward off the evil eye so that they can receive Allah’s help and healing when needed.

رَّبِّ اَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزٰتِ الشَّيٰطِيْنِ. وَاَعُوْذُ بِكَ رَبِّ اَنْ يَّحْضُرُوْنِ

Translation: O my Lord, I seek refuge in You from the whisperings of the devils, and I seek refuge in You, O my Lord, lest they come to me. [Quran | Surah Al-Mu’minun | 23:97-98]

Protection from disasters

We recite this supplication to avoid calamities, and we ask Allah for help so that He may help us in every difficulty.

اللَّهُمَّ احْفَظْنِي مِنْ بَينِ يَدَيَّ, وَمِنْ خَلْفِي, وَعَنْ يَمِينِي, وَعَنْ شِمَالِي وَمِنْ فَوْقِي, وَأَعُوذُ بِعَظَمَتِكَ أَن أُْغْتَالَ مِنْ تَحْتِي

Translation: O Allah, protect me from what is in front of me, from what is behind me, from what is on my right, from what is on my left, and from what is above me. And I seek refuge in Your Majesty from being unaware of what is below me. [Hadith: Ibn Majah]

Prayer for protection from illness

According to Abu Dawud, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recite this supplication to protect himself from illness. An important reminder in this supplication is that our refuge is always in Allaah.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْبَرَصِ، وَالْجُنُونِ، وَالْجُذَامِ، وَمِنْ سَيِّئِ الأَسْقَامِ

Translation: O Allaah, I seek refuge in You from leprosy, madness, elephantiasis, and the worst diseases [Hadith: Abu Dawud]

In one narration, it is also narrated that the third wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), Hazrat Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her), says that whenever one of us fell ill, he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would wipe over the painful area and recite this supplication.

اللَّهُمَّ ربَّ النَّاسِ ، أَذْهِب الْبَأسَ ، واشْفِ ، أَنْتَ الشَّافي لا شِفَاءَ إِلاَّ شِفَاؤُكَ ، شِفاءً لا يُغَادِرُ سقَماً

Translation: O Allaah, the Lord of mankind, remove my affliction and cure me, for You are the Healer and there is no cure except You. This is the One who leaves no disease behind. [Hadith: Saheeh al-Bukhari]

Prayer for black magic

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ مَلِكِ النَّاسِ إِلَٰهِ النَّاسِ مِن شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ

Translation: Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the King of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the backsliding whisperer who whispers into the hearts of mankind, from among the jinn and humans.

Benefits

To ward off evil, it gives us the strength to ward off the whispers of Satan, to be a shield for spiritual guidance, and against psychological harm.

The calming of anxiety is a contributor to our peace. After reciting it, our hearts become calm from troubles.

• Strengthening the faith: After reciting it, it increases our strength to believe in the sovereignty of Allah, as the Lord of mankind, the King and God.
• Sunnah of protection: Reading it daily protects the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
• Overcoming temptation: Resists negative thoughts and inner struggles.
• Protection from magic and envy: It is effective when recited with Surah Falaq to ward off black magic and envy.

Dua for harm or danger

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا عَمِلْتُ وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا لَمْ أَعْمَلْ.

Translation: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done and the evil of what I have not done.

How to use these prayers

• Intention: Whenever we want to ask Allah for help, we should first make an intention
